Once again, it’s Priscilla Bennett’s husband, Harry, saying hello and letting you know that I’m in complete support of my wife’s fight to end domestic violence.  She encourages me to speak out, so here I am, not knowing what to say, except that I’m so proud of my wife and what she’s trying to do.  She says it’s important to have male voices supporting this cause.

I play cards one night a week, and Pris said, “Why don’t you start a conversation with your buddies?  Ask them how they feel about domestic violence.”  Last night was my Gin Rummy night.  The four of us sat at a card table sipping our beer, chewing our pretzels and catching up on the week.  As we were shuffling the cards, I said, “You know, Pris just came out with her book.”  “Good job. What’s it about?” one asked.  “Domestic violence.”  “What’s that?” “That’s too heavy a subject for me,” “I like a good thriller,” were their next responses.  We continued playing cards, and by the end of the evening, they had come around, and I had their support.  Next week, we’re including the wives to expand the conversation.

I hope that you will support Pris in her efforts to fight this epidemic, and please let me know what else I can do to help.  I want to support my wife and be a male voice speaking out for good.
