My Mother’s Day – A Blog Posting
Dear Priscilla Bennett Community,
I hope all of you had a lovely Mother’s Day. I started my day by going to my mother’s grave not far from our home. There was a chill in the air, and light rain fell as I placed white roses on her stone and kissed it. I drew my hand across the cold rough surface and spoke to her. I thanked her for her love, told her what a great mother she had been, and how I’d tried to pass on her values to my own.
After my visit, Harry drove me to one of my favorite restaurants for Mother’s Day lunch, and to my surprise, all three daughters were there to celebrate. We joked and laughed and shared tender stories in between bites of lasagna and sips of red wine. All three stood up and raised their glasses to me and to my mother whom they also loved. We talked about what Nana had taught us, and how much we missed her.
I’m so lucky to have my husband and children. I’ve heard so many stories of mothers who have to flee with their children in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes on their backs or mothers who stay in abusive relationships so that their children can have food and shelter or the mothers who don’t survive to tell their stories.
